Nik has a thorough background and extensive experience across all manner of insurance claims, particularly in the context of professional indemnity matters where he has acted for a variety of professionals across a range of industries. He is also highly competent in the areas of public liability and property damage.

Nik is our Australian legal lead within Crawford’s globally recognised Cyber Incident Response offering. Nik, alongside an agile team of other Crawford experts (including claims managers, forensic accountants and crisis communications professionals), provides clients with the full suite of cyber response services. Drawing on Crawford’s reputable and well-established Cyber Incident Response model, Nik’s team complements the “claims-led” approach to management of cyber claims by providing timely and strategically-minded legal input where necessary.

Nik holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney, with First Class Honours.

 

Areas of expertise

Nik assists and advises different players in the insurance space from insureds, self-insureds, brokers, underwriters and local and overseas-based insurers, tailoring strategies and solutions to match the specific needs, goals and motivations of each client. He is a trusted advisor to clients and has been called upon to advise on various insurance issues such as policy response, interpretation and drafting, risk management, contractual clauses and regulatory compliance, ranging from specific industry practices and procedures to broader issues enlivened by the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth).

From a claims perspective, Nik achieves optimum outcomes for clients through close liaison during informal settlement conferences and mediations, and reflecting clients’ KPI needs through skilled drafting of advice. He works purposively within a team throughout the claims process, ensuring commercial incentives and swift resolution remain at the forefront of considerations, wherever appropriate.

When it comes to cyber matters, Nik has dealt with both large and smaller scale attacks, with advice based on the twin pillars of shutting down cyber incidents as soon as possible and with minimal expense, while also providing organisations with tailored advice on cyber security risk mitigation and management for the future.
