Since admission in early 2012, Melissa has worked in insurance litigation gaining extensive experience in managing claims for insurers and their insureds. She is also experienced working on treatment liability matters. Melissa benefits from time spent on ‘both sides of the bench’, completing her practical legal training as an Associate at the State Administrative Tribunal. This experience has given her considerable insight into the processes and procedures of Courts and Tribunals which assists her in practice.
Melissa graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Edith Cowan University in 2010, gained her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law in early 2012, and is currently working towards a Master of Human Rights at Curtin University. She is currently a committee member for Australian Lawyers for Human Rights (ALHR) and the Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA).
Areas of expertise
Melissa specialises in casualty work ranging from complex multi-defendant litigation to minor ‘slip and trip’ cases. She also works across areas including medical negligence and professional indemnity. She has significant Court experience and regularly appears before the District and Supreme Courts for pre-trial conferences, mediations, directions hearings, special appointments and interlocutory applications. Melissa has unique trial experience, having prepared casualty matters for trial and appearing as instructing solicitor at trial.
Melissa is a passionate supporter of HBA’s Pro Bono and Social Impact practice. She is the program’s National Coordinator and responsible for managing pro bono referrals nationally across HBA, and acting for pro bono clients.
