Experience

Courtney has over ten years’ experience working in law firms both in Australia and England.

In England, as a paralegal, Courtney was involved in the defence of large industrial class actions brought against the National Health Service. She worked closely with both clients and barristers having exposure to advice around liability and quantum, while supporting with preparation for litigation, negotiating settlements and undertaking advocacy.

After returning to Australia in 2013, Courtney worked in paralegal roles within various legal disciplines including insurance, commercial adjudication, dust diseases and workplace relations.

She joined HBA in May 2015, initially providing support to solicitors in state workers’ compensation, federal workers’ compensation, public and product liability and motor vehicle matters.  Since then, Courtney successfully completed her legal studies (Bachelor of Laws from Murdoch University graduating in 2017) and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in mid-2018.

Courtney’s experience providing support to solicitors, for a number of years, in a variety of disciplines, meant she had unique knowledge from day one as a practising solicitor.

 

Expertise

Today, Courtney has a proactive role in handling the day-to-day running of matters.

Courtney is experienced in drafting applications for Conciliation and Arbitration in workers’ compensation WorkCover proceedings. She is regularly required to brief both medical experts and factual investigators so that information can be obtained to assist with the assessment of liability in workers’ compensation claims. Courtney is also experienced in the various tasks associated with progressing motor vehicle personal injury claims. Her work includes drafting advices, preparing briefs to counsel, undertaking extensive discovery, drafting defences and drafting interrogatories.

Courtney’s broad experience means she is adaptable to assist in a broad range of matters.
